Sweden’s top saxophonist/composer/arranger/bandleader Rosengren (b. 1937) gained wide recognition through his work with Krzysztof Komeda in Poland and his performance in the soundtrack of Polanski’s film “Knife In The Water” in 1962. Later he played with George Russell, Don Cherry and Lars Gullin. In the late 70s he formed a group with Doug Raney, who is appearing in this recording on one track as a guest player.

Joe Bonner – Suburban Fantasies (SCCD 31176)

Pianist Joe Bonner was a frequent visitor to Copenhagen in the 80s. Bonner’s modernistic approach matched extremely well with the free spirited bass of Dyani who resided in Denmark at the time.

The collaboration between Bonner and Dyani produced a very successful trio recording with Billy Higgins on drums (SCCD 31116 “Parade”). On the duo format here their tremendous rapport is even more evident.

Trumpeter, composer/arranger Walrath (b. January 17, 1934 in Dallas) has co-led group Change with Gary Peacock in the late 60s and later joined Charles Mingus’s band (1974 – 8)for which he also worked as arranger. From the 80s he formed his own group and toured Europe extensively.

Walrath is acclaimed for his fluent and exciting sound which has “ brass’s authentic ring and bite ” (The Penguin Guide To JAZZ).

Pianist and composer Albert Dailey (1938 – 1984) started taking piano lessons at the age of six and later studied piano and composition at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.
